Truck wont stay running

Truck runs fine sometimes. I can crank it and drive it to the store but when I come out and try to start it it wont idle it just shuts off. If I hold the gas it stays running.

Is this a carby or EFI engine?

There will be an idle solenoid on the side of the carby, round and with 1 wire, see if this clicks in when the ignition turns on.
