One day while driving, car started sputtering and died, got it started but service now light was on. So I had it towed home, and couldnt get it started, while cranking, it blows white smoke from the TBI and if I turn off the key before it dies, it will backfire. It will sometimes start, but die as soon as I give it any throttle. Then one day I tried, popped right off and ran fine, so I changed fuel filter and it ran great, drove it for about 3o miles, then sputtered and died like before, so I changed the fuel pump and still no luck. Has spark and but I never checked the plugs. Its getting fuel to the TBI so im lost as to what it might be, any ideas?

I removed the converter, and then it started and ran perfectly, not a sputter or anything. Drove about 60 miles then it starts sputtering again. Pulled over, shut it off, waited about 15 min, started up and it starts backfiring then it runs fine again, continue home and the muffler blows without warning and the car dies. Towed home and removed the muffler, starts and runs good but sometimes dies at idle but now the service soon light is on, and I know its not due to the removal of the converter, but only every so often that I try and start it that it comes on. What could cause this?

Just attempt to do it and see if it, will give you something to work with-otherwise the computer management system is okay-
