OK FELLER!

WHAT KINDA NEW STUFF DID YOU STRAP TO THE ENGINE AFTER THE REBUILD?

GOT MANY TESTS FOR YOU, IF NEED-BE---I NEED THE WHOLE STORY---PICS WOULD BE NICE

BY ALL MEANS. ENGINE SIZE?

ANY MODIFICATIONS YOU HAVE DONE

I'LL HANG WITH YOU AS LONG AS IT TAKES

MANY OF MY CJ ANSWERS ARE OVER 100 RESPONSES LONG, GETTING THEM RUNNING AND CONTINUING WITH OTHER FIXES. KEEP ON RESPONDING RIGHT HERE!

I HAVE TWO."MR JEEP" AND "WILLY"

I HAVE LOTS OF PICS THAT I MADE TO MAKE "FIXIN'" EZer

WITH IT "BUSTING OFF" FOR 30 SECONDS --- ALREADY RULES SOME THINGS OUT!

I MADE SOME OF MY PICS A GOOD WHILE BACK---MY USE OF "COLORED TEXT" REALLY LACKED ON SOME BACKGROUNDS---SO I'VE BEEN RE-DOING SOME AS I GO

HERE'S MY LATEST VERSION---IS THIS BETTER?

WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR VOLTAGE IN THIS TEST?

I'M STILL IN THE PROCESS OF FIGGERING OUT WHETHER YOU HAVE A FUEL OR IGNITION PROBLEM

DOES IT JUST "DIE". OR DOES IT SPIT/ SPUTTER/ HICCUP AS IT DIES?

MODS?

Hello all (especially CJ Medevac)
I have an all original 16,000 mile CJ-7 79 Laredo that just dies when low RPM
It’s an automatic and sat idle one winter according to my father at the hunting camp and “never ran correctly” since. He believes rats are to blame.

Yet I grew up driving it on our property and want to get it road ready again

This jeep is so special to me, any help is appreciated to not leave me stranded

When I start it...I have to turn ignition while pumping gas in just the right pattern. Wait, aka stop the ignition as not to flood it. On about the third time it starts but I immediately have to switch to drive or reverse and keep it running for a bit.

It will then after 2 mins be able to turn of and start again and I can drive it often until it just dies so to speak.

I shift to N to start and sometimes it works

Other times it won’t start at all so unreliable beauty just waiting for an answer and some help

This was my mom’s jeep. I never knew her. Many falls in this Jeep (I live in a hot southern state) and memories for a lifetime.

I’d love a starting point. Thank you all!

Please just tell me what you need to see and I’ll take photos.

The worst news, the local mechanic took it upon himself to drill a hole in the everything is factory dash and put a “choke” in that I never use

It gets worse.

He then wrote IN SHARPIE “Pull for choke” on the dash!

I still haven’t figured this out or gotten over it. My stomach turned.

Thanks everyone

It's been 44 years since your Jeep was pulled out of the Cap'n Crunch box new!

It's had that many years for someone to "Upgrade" stuff (many times,

that means "mess with" without a clue, because their buddy said to do it!)

1979-1981 was the best years for a '76-'86 CJ

They got it all correct in '79, and from '82 on it was over-done with

the computer mess.

Now those Jeeps strive to get back like the '79-'81 eliminating

the computer stuff.

It would be nice for you to lay your hood back against the windshield

frame, remove the breather and get some pics overhead and both

sides to see kinda how it might be set up now!

You really need a few simple meters and such to accurately tune

it correctly. Doing it by ear is not very accurate!

I wrote this answer(s) a long time ago.

I was "translating" my 258 (inline 6 cylinder) over to his 304 (v-8) to

help him understand the hows and whys (since I did not have a 304 to

take pics of the procedures)

The Good thing is, now you can sorta do either one as long as you can

eliminate the engine you don't have!

I want you to read through this Thread

As far as a possible faster fix

Find this date on an answer FRIDAY, MAY 7TH, 2010 AT 12:43 PM

Then "DO" the MIX SCREW procedure described in the Answer below

that date.

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/jeep-cj7-1985-jeep-cj7-stalls-when-hot

Mainly run each screw in till it gently touches the bottom

WHILE COUNTING THE TURNS FOR BOTH SCREWS!

The bring them back out the same number (but even/ the same for

both screws)---It's time for a meter to get it correct!

Hopefully they have not been played with and will come back to the

same spot as 10 years ago, when it ran well!

A full tune-up with new goodies would be a good thing--Plugs/ wires/

distributor cap/ fuel filter/ etc.

If you can get him running decent, for now, with a full tank of fuel, run a

can of "Seafoam" in the fuel tank.

Your turn,

I may have some more for you!
