Good Evening,

Well I pulled the Diff covers and the rear looked phenomenal! The oil may have had a lil water in it considering it was slightly chocolate like. I included a picture of them which is picture 1 AND 2. I found not metal shaving and everything looked great! Whew what a relief.

THEN THE HARDCORE JEEPER PREVIOUS OWNER STRUCK AGAIN. REFER TO ALL PICTURES BEYOND PICTURE 2!

So as you can tell they welded the front spider gears. Glad I didnt try the 4X4 trick to teach her to drive. Which as long as we are not on asphalt or hard surface we should be fine correct? There was some shavings in the front. You may be able to tell from the picture where it is grinding but, it looked like the top spider gear was wore down a bit. Now singe they are welded if we decided to go out in the snow, would that be ok? What is the limits I can do with this until we decided to replace the gears (remember we are not mudders or rock crawlers, so it should have a pretty easy life from here on out)?

I did put the covers back on and did find there respective gaskets today. I slightly tightened the bolts to allow the lil amount of RTV to set up. I also did that because what is the special additive I should add if not Lucas or something like that. The people at Oreilly and Advance pushed lucas on me for the additive. I did see a 85w-90 limited slip gear oil but it was synthetic and figured that would not work as well.

Well that is basically the latest. I did not attempt the transfer case because we got a late start.

OH GREAT NEWS! Apparently the hardcore jeepers replaced the TORX bolts with hex bolts! Well I guess they did do me one favor! Or really they did themselves a favor probably after there river expeditions.

Thank you
Joe

Www. Youtube. Com/watch?V=yYAw79386WI

LET'S MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE UP FRONT

AS LONG AS YOUR HUBS ARE UNLOCKED, EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FINE AND NORMAL, EVEN IN 4WL, YOU WILL HAVE THE "TEACHING" REDUCTION, AS LONG AS YOUR HUBS ARE UNLOCKED!

WHEN YOU DO LOCK IN THE HUBS, YOU WILL HAVE "FULL TIME POSITIVE TRACTION" (ONLY ON THE FRONT)

THIS IS NOT NOT NOT NOT LIMITED SLIP!

THIS IS EXACTLY HOW DIRT TRACK RACE CARS CHEAPLY MAKE THE REAR ENDS FULL POSITIVE TRACTION (KEY WORD HERE IS "DIRT")

"LIMITED SLIP" MEANS THAT "CLUTCH PACKS" OR OTHER MEANS WILL ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH BOTH WHEELS GETTING TRACTION ALL OF THE TIME,

SHOULD ONE FALL IN A MUD PUDDLE (ETC) THE OTHER WILL CONTINUE TO PULL

THE TRICK HERE, WITH "LIMITED SLIP" IS THAT THE CLUTCH PACKS WILL LET ONE WHEEL OR THE OTHER "ROLL" THE LONGER DISTANCE IN A TURN (JUST LIKE A STANDARD DIFF WILL DO). A "FRICTION MODIFIER ADDITIVE" IS NEEDED TO KEEP THOSE CLUTCH PACKS LUBRICATED

YOU DON'T HAVE CLUTCH PACKS!

DON'T ADD THE ADDITIVES, LUCAS WILL THICKEN THE OIL AND IT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SLING WHERE IT'S NEEDED

YOU ARE GONNA HAVE TO BE CAREFUL IN 4WD!

YOUR FRONT WHEELS (ONE OR THE OTHER) IS GONNA "DRAG" DURING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS. SOFTER SURFACES WILL ALLOW IT TO BE A BIT SMOOTHER.

THE WORST PART OF BEING IN 4X4, HUBS LOCKED IS GONNA BE TURNING HARD (MAYBE NOT SO HARD) AND THE WHEEL(S) HOPPING. A STOCK JEEP SORTA DOES THIS A LITTLE ANYWAY, IT IS FELT IN/ WITH THE STEERING WHEEL WANTING TO MOVE CW AND CCW (MAYBE A 1/4 TURN) VERY RAPIDLY.

YOURS "MIGHT" JERK THE WHEEL A LOT MORE!

YOURS ON HARD SURFACES IN 4X4 (WHICH IS A NO NO!), MIGHT TRY TO SORTA "MAKE A TURN DIFFICULT TO PERFORM", AS YOU WILL BE DRAGGING ONE OF THE FRONT WHEELS. IN OTHER WORDS, "PLAYING CHICKEN" MIGHT BE A BAD IDEA! NOT HAVING REALLY DEALT WITH THIS KINDA ISSUE (ESPECIALLY ON THE STEERING AXLE) I WOULD NOT RULE OUT A POSSIBLE ROLLOVER, IF A WHEEL CAN'T SLIP ON THE GROUND!

IT'S YOUR JEEP, MAYBE IN THE FUTURE YOU CAN GET ANOTHER FRONT END, WITH THE SAME GEAR RATIO AS AS THE REAR, AND THIS WON'T BE A POSSIBLE PROBLEM

Wow you went old school on me with that video.

Hey I thought you was a jeep man. Why are you sending Chevy videos? Are you trying to convert? I happen to be a Ford person.

So let me get this clear no additives at all? Because I thought you said in limited slip it need an oem additive. Maybe I misread it but it seemed like that was what you were saying.

Yeah I would like to change it. Can I just not replace the planetary gears and spider gears instead of replacing the whole front end?

Thank you

YOU DO NOT HAVE LIMITED SLIP!

YOU HAVE A "NEVER CAN SLIP AT ALL" FRONT END

YOU SAID THE REAR WHEELS MOVED IN OPPOSING DIRECTIONS (STANDARD DIFF)

I LIKED HOW SIMPLE THE DIFF WAS EXPLAINED IN 1937

I LIKED THIS ONE TOO. 'COURSE THE BOSSES HERE THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE INAPPROPRIATE (WHADDA YOU THINK?) I SORTA LOOK AT IT AS AN INSPIRATION THAT I REMEMBER FROM WHEN I WAS A KID (THIS AIRED WHEN I WAS ABOUT 14). LET ME SET YOU UP FOR THIS ONE

THE ONE WITH THE LONGER HAIR (LIKE MANY WHOM HAVE STALKED ME SO MANY TIMES) SUDDENLY ABANDONS THE "DARK SIDE". WATCH HOW FAST! (ALMOST A BLUR!) SORTA SO QUICKLY JOINS OUR TEAM!THE VOCALS WERE SO SOOTHING TO ME, I'VE HEARD SIMILARITIES MANY TIMES IN PREVIOUS CJ-5s WHEN I WAS IN THE ARMY. ("THE BATTALION STALLION")

Sorry I guess I did misunderstand. Ok so fill it up with 85w-90 and don't look back. Got it. Ashlee really liked that video. Maybe one day she will be driving like that.

I think I want to do the front diff over the winter because since this project has took time away from rebuilding my boat transom. I decided early spring I have blocked out time to do boat transom. Also since there is presently no top I am fairly certain jeep won't see much action.

So you would think it best to replace the whole front then rebuild? Are they that abundant it is cheaper to replace? Because I found some gears for like $200.

Thank you

MAYBE I SAID SOMETHING MISLEADING!

AS FAR AS "GEAR BOXES", UNLESS YOU DO HAVE LIMITED SLIP, I SUGGEST NO ADDITIVES!

AS FAR AS THE ENGINE GOES, I DO RECOMMEND SOME ADDITIVES (IF YOU DO HAVE A BOTTLE OF LUCAS OIL STABILIZER, KEEP IT!)

HERE'S A POST ABOUT TICKING HYDRAULIC LIFTERS (TAPPETS)

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/ford-f-150-1995-ford-f-150-lifter-noise

I USE A QUART OF MARVEL MYSTERY OIL IN WITH FOUR QUARTS OF MOTOR OIL. I RUN THIS FOR 3000 MILES. JUST TO CLEAN THE ENGINE INTERNALS. (THIS BEING SOMETHING MIGHT DO ONCE IN TWO YEARS.

OTHER THAN THAT, I RUN ONE QUART OF LUCAS OIL STABILIZER (NOT THE SYNTHETIC) ALONG WITH FOUR QUARTS OF MOTOR OIL (I NOW USE CASTROL GTX 20/50 - I USED TO USE HAVOLINE 20/50 TILL IT WAS HARD TO FIND).

I REBUILT THIS ENGINE IN 1995, RAN IT 25,000 MILE (TO INSURE IT WAS WELL BROKE IN) THEN I STARTED USING THE LUCAS OIL STABILIZER

IT COSTS A LITTLE MORE, I HAVE USED THE LUCAS FOR EVERY OIL CHANGE SINCE THEN (EXCEPT WHEN I WAS RUNNING MARVEL MYSTERY OIL IN A OIL CHANGE)

THIS IS MY PRIMARY VEHICLE, HE IS STILL RUNNING STRONG, OIL PRESSURE IS ALWAYS 50-60 PSI (DURING MY 1995 REBUILD, I INSTALLED A HIGH VOLUME OIL PUMP) MY VACUUM GAUGE AT IDLE HOLDS A NICE STEADY NEEDLE AT 22Hg!

SO YES, I DO BELIEVE IN ADDITIVES, BUT IN THE ENGINE.

DO YOU HAVE SOFT TOP HARDWARE (BOWS AND SUCH, DOOR FRAMES)?

WOULD LIKE A FEW PICS OF YOUR BABY, KINDA WANNA KNOW WHATS IN MY GARAGE!

Good Afternoon,

Sorry I haven't been on in like two weeks. I had to take a sudden business trip but I am back now. I completed the diffs and they are full of fluid but yet to do the transfer case. I will get you some pics later today or tomorrow.

I hope all is well with you and your family. Look forward to getting back to work on the jeep. Damn work holding me up! You should have came up here and finished that up for me while I was gone lol! Well today is my birthday and I have made it my wish to get this jeep finished up by next spring! LOL once again so I can enjoy my boat which needs a transom repair.

I did today attempt to work on the transfer but wasted several hours of time because I tried to remove the plate not know it was holding up the transmission. I figured it would have been mounted by something else. You should have saw my face when I began to lower the plate with the jack! I figured that would be an issue in the woods if you was to run that plate into something. Well not to much up with me as you see so fill me in on your recent activities.

Thank you

UNLESS YOU GOTTA PUT ON SOME GASKETS OR SEALS, THE DRAINS TO THE TRANNY AND TRANSFER CASE ARE ACCESSIBLE FROM THE FRONT OF THE SKID PLATE AND THRU A HOLE IN THE SKID PLATE. (NO NEED TO DROP THE SKID PLATE)

WORKING, DOING HONEY-DOs, RAIN, DARKNESS, SOME LACK OF MOTIVATION ARE ALL PREVENTING ME FROM A LITTLE SANDING AND PAINTING THE GRILL, HOOD, HALF OF BOTH FENDERS. I DID THE REST BEFORE WINTER SET IN LAST YEAR. NOW I GOTTA BEAT IT THIS YEAR!

I SORTA PLEDGED THAT I WOULD NOT CLEAN MY WHEELS OR PAINT THE BLACK STUFF (BUMPERS, FRAME, ETC. W/ SPRAY CANS) TILL I GOT THE BODY STUFF PAINTED.

THEN I GOTTA GET THE LOCAL SIGN GUY TO MAKE ME TWO "RENEGADEs" (SOLID BLACK THIS TIME) FOR MR. HOOD. THE LAST SET I HAD MADE HAD THE "CREAM COLOR" IN THE MIDDLE AND WAS OUTLINED WITH A 3/8 BORDER OF BLACK AROUND EACH LETTER.

LOOKED GOOD IN THE BEGINNING, THEN THE INNER COLOR FADED TO ALMOST WHITE, AND THE BORDER STARTED PEELING UP IN PLACES.

SO, THIS TIME IT'S GONNA BE ONE PIECE LETTERS, BUT IN THE SAME FONT AND SIZE AS BEFORE.

SOUNDS GOOD IN TEXT, I JUST GOTTA JUMP ON IT!

I'LL SHOW YOU SOME OTHER PLACES THAT LUBING WOULD DO IT SOME GOOD (GOTTA FIND THE DARN PICS!)

AS FAR AS TEACHING A STANDARD TRANNY, MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT YOUR "SHIFTS" HAVE GOTTA BE IN "HYPER SPEED", I RECKON THEY FIGGER IT'S A RACE, OR THEY WILL FORGET WHERE TO GO WITH THE STICK IF IT'S NOT DONE IN.000005 SECONDS. MAYBE IT'S THEY WANT THE OPERATION TO BE A BLUR, SO THAT IT DOESN'T APPEAR THEY SHIFTED AT ALL!

WHEN I WAS TEACHING MY DAUGHTER, WE SORTA CAME UP WITH:

IT'S TIME TO SHIFT!

CLUTCH IN

"AND A" NEUTRAL "AND A" SECOND

EZ THE CLUTCH OUT

'COURSE THE "AND As" WORK WITH THIRD AS WELL

WE DIDN'T DOWN SHIFT (USED THE BRAKES) UNTIL SHE COULD HOLD "WILLY" ON AN INCLINE WITH ONLY THE CLUTCH, THEN FROM HOLDING, ROLLING BACK OR FORWARD AND HOLDING AT DIFFERENT POSITIONS.

(SHE'D GET SO MAD THAT WE WERE NOT DRIVING, JUST PLAYING ON THE HILL)

I THEN GOT HER FLUENT IN CRANKING UP ON THE HILL, THEN MOVING FORWARD, NOT LOSING MUCH GROUND (LIKE SHE WOULD HAVE TO DO IT IF IT DIED AND THERE WAS A CAR BEHIND HER)

IT WAS ONLY AFTER SHE WAS GREAT AT SHIFTING, THAT WE COVERED DOWNSHIFTING.

I'LL LOOK FOR MY OTHER PICS

LAST PIC, ALL FASTENERS GO BACK INTO THE SAME EXACT LOCATION AS THEY WERE. I POKE HOLES AND USE NAILS TO HOLD STUFF IN PLACE. ANY PATTERN IS DRAWN AND LABELD.

I DO THE "BOX THING" WITH ANY REPAIR I DO. NO LAYING BOLTS HERE AND THERE ON A FENDER/ ON THE ENGINE. WHEN I GET DONE, THE BOX IS EMPTY AND EVERYTHING HAD A HOME!

Well two weeks ago the transfer case was leaking out the front where the shaft connects. I did not see any leaks tonight but going to inspect after it sits all night. When it leaked last time, it did so for about an hour then stopped. We drove it tonight to go to my birthday dinner and didnt seem to have any problems but will check in the morning as I said.

I went ahead and got you one picture so you can see a overall view instead of the parts. I will try to get you some more tomorrow.

Good Morning,

We have the bumper remember in my earlier posts I took it off sanded it down and repainted it. I will send you a picture of it later. I have not put it back on yet because I have been working on the frame as you can tell by the front. I am working on the frame from front to back. I am going to put on my tyvek suit one day and climb under there and purple power the bottom of that thing so I can get all that mud out of there. I have been tempted to take to it to a carwash that does underbody wash and just do that and roll out of it.

I think we decided that we are doing the underneath all in satin black. The body in a close shade of burgandy and the accents in chrome. Chrome will stay on the body and up. Rims, steps, bumper will stay black.

You was talking vinyls. I have a really good guy up here that does vinyls. The truck with vinyls is that they all shrink over time if they are die cut. The vinyl that usually holds up better to sun abuse and shrinkage is metallic color vinyls. If you can stand a vinyl that is glittery it will hold up longer. I know all about vinyls, I have bought enough of them in the past. Also it sounded like you got a printed vinyl. If you do a plain color die cut vinyl it will hold up significantly longer. Downside it will only be one color. If you need any help with vinyls let me know, As a rule of thumb if you got a vinyl and it didnt withstand excellent condition a minimum of 2 years it was shabby material. Also as time goes on it shouldnt have peeled up like that either unless you have an unclean surface when applying. I have vinyls applied 6 years ago that look about the same as the day I bought them.

Thank you

Good Morning,

The jeep does have hardware and doors. But from looking at the top hardware it looks backwards and possibly bent. So we may have to take you up on buying yours.

So far this week, I have took off the hood and began sanding it down to prep it for paint. I took it down almost all the way to metal and have rust converted it and will resand it and convert, primer and paint. I do have a sand blaster on the way, which should be here before the weekend. I planned on using black diamond (coal slag) media. I am going to use that to blast the frame, tub and outside of the jeep to prepare to paint.

But I think that is about everything new. OH YEAH. The labor day fairy struck on Monday and we bought a full roll cage for the jeep like miles from our house! It needs a lil TLC and maybe some new plates for the front but it was worth $75 dollars. The guy has two chassis and one of them has a 304 engine but it wasnt covered or anything. So I am not sure if you need anything but he had mostly everything but the body of the jeeps. He had two hoods, a grille, and stuff like that. If you go on charlotte craiglist and put in CJ parts it should come up in Belmont, NC.

Thank you

Good evening,

I still need to tackle the swapping parts in the clutch assembly arms and such.

Also need to complete the leaking transfer case by replacing the seal.

After driving awhile my rear differential sprung a lil leak so will probably redo that.

Still need some gauges.

I am kinda tired of turning wrenches so I have been trying to push forward on painting.

As far as who is the jeeper. It still Ashlee. Are you trying to allocate funds for the jeep by selling my boat.

I took pictures of that roll cage but some reason it wouldn't attach. I will try again tomorrow.
Do you know if some jeep did not come with high/low beam light stitch? Because I am fairly certain there is not one and have not seen where it use top be on the floor.

I am sure the list will grow so Tucker down for the long ride.

Thank you

I KINDA DON'T SEE WHY YOU SENT MY PICS BACK (PROBABLY A GLITCH, WHEN TRYING TO SEND THE TWO THAT DID NOT SHOW

I JUST GOT ANOTHER COMPUTER, DIFFERENT WINDOWS, "PAINT" IS SET UP DIFFERENT, I HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT HOW TO USE IT TO LABEL PICS I SEND, HECK, "MY PICTURES" ARE NOW OBLIQUE FOLDERS WITH THE EDGES OF PICS HANGING OUT. THESE CHANGES ARE REALLY SLOWING ME UP. NOT BEING ABLE TO ADD LINES AND TEXT(COLORED TEXT) TO MY PICS IS KILLING ME!

I'LL ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN, TILL I GET IT FIGGERED OUT

PIC 1) NIGHT PICS, HER RIGS REFLECTOR IS BEAMING W/ THE FLASH!
WE HAVE THE ORIGINAL HARDWARE, 2 BOWS (BY THEMSELVES)
AND 2 RODS FOR ONE SIDE, THEY ARE DIFFERENT, BUT "MIRROR" THE OTHER SIDE (SEPARATE PARTS, WHEN NOT IN USE, BASICALLY, I HAVE 4 METAL STICKS TO STORE, USUALLY BEHIND THE BACK SEAT!

PIC 2) TOP ROD, EXTENDS FROM PLASTIC DOOR STOP (HOLE AT TOP OF IT) (DOOR STOP SEALS DOOR TO WINDSHIELD, CUTS OUT WIND). EXTENDS TO HOLE IN TOP BOW. THE VERTICAL ROD MUST BE INSERTED AND SHOVED INTO PLASTIC HOLDER OF TOP ROD, AND CONNECTED TO THE TUB, BEFORE THE HORIZONTAL TOP ROD CAN HOOK INTO THE TOP BOW HOLE. OTHERWISE YOU CANNOT GET ANY SLACK TO INSERT THE VERTICAL ROD.

THE TOP, ITSELF, HAS A FLAP LIKE/ SORTA LIKE A STRAP, THAT GOES AROUND THE TOP BOW, THEN DOUBLES BACK FORWARD AND SNAPS ONTO ITSELF. THIS HOLDS THE BOW FROM FALLING REARWARD AND KEEPS THE RODS FIRMLY IN PLACE

PIC 3) THIS IS THE DRIVER'S SIDE ROD HOLE ON THE DOOR STOP

PIC 4) THE RODS AND TOP BOW

PIC 5) THIS IS THE ORIGINAL "TRADITIONAL" PLASTIC DOOR HANDLE.

SOME AFTERMARKET DOORS USE A PADDLE HANDLE WAY DOWN LOW ON THE DOOR. THAT TYPE IS A PAIN TO ADJUST, AND SOMETIMES DON'T FULLY CLOSE THE DOOR AT THE TOP. THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT I'VE SEEN ON THAT TYPE IS THAT THE TUB PORTION GETS IN THE WAY OF GETTING IN AND OUT, AND GETS BENT (THIS IS MOSTLY ON A CJ-5)

PIC 6) THE OUTSIDE OF THE "TRADITIONAL" DOOR HANDLE (WHICH IS ABOUT HALFWAY UP THE VERTICAL ROD) ORIGINALLY, THE HANDLE "TIP" WAS MEANT TO BE FACING FORWARD. AS MOST SEASONED JEEP FELLERS FOUND OUT, IT BECAME A HOOK (LIKE A U.S. MAIL RETRIEVAL HOOK ON AN OLD STEAM ENGINE TRAIN) THE HANDLE WOULD "ALWAYS" REACH OUT AND GRAB A BIG OLE VINE, A SAPLING, OR A TREE LIMB, IT DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO BE A "GOOD" ONE, THE STUFF WOULD SORTA RAKE THRU, THEN "GRAB" AND BUST THE HANDLE OFF! TOOK ME TWO HANDLES TO SMARTEN UP!

THE HANDLE IS TWO PIECES, THAT SEPARATE WHEN THE SCREW IS REMOVED, BEINGS THAT IT "INDEXES" ON A HEXAGON IN THE CENTER PORTION, YOU CAN ROTATE THE OUTSIDE HANDLE 180 DEGREES, (IN ALL ACTUALITY, ANY OF SIX POSITIONS-THE OTHER 4 WOULD LOOK STUPID!) NOW ALL YOU GOTTA DO IS "WATCH FOR" THE SNAGS WHEN YOU ARE BACKING UP!

WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO CONCENTRATE ON NEXT?
