I recently acquired a '77 cj7 through trade. Jeep has a 4.2L v6, 258. Rebuilt engine approx 11000 mi ago. Jeep sat for a yr, but had a new carb put on just after sitting for a while. (Guess he didn't run it after putting new carb on. Carb is a carter 2bbl, remanned. Jeep will fire, idle then die. If I hit the throttle while idle, seems as if it floods out. Enough to where it's dripping fuel. Took carb apart, cleaned it, cleaned the floats, can't tell if metering rod is bad or Wht. Anyone help? Please. Thanks.
YOUR NEEDLE AND SEAT ARE BAD/ TRASH IN-BETWEEN THEM
IF YOU TOOK THIS APART--I'M GUESSING YOU ARE MECHANICAL
ARE YOU POSITIVE IT'S BACK TOGETHER RIGHT?
DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW THE METERING ROD GOES INTO THE JET----AND IS IT ADJUSTED CORRECTLY (AS PER FACTORY AMC SERVICE MANUAL)?
I CAN DEFINITELY DO THE TASK---I'VE YET TO EXPLAIN ANY OF ANY INTERNAL CARB PROCESSES ON 2CARPROS
THINK YOU CAN FOLLOW MY HICKIFIED EXPLANATIONS?
I TOO AM A DIYer---I JUST HAVE MEGA CJ EXPERIENCE SINCE I'VE OWNED NOTHING BUT 6---CJ 5s AND ONE WILLYS, SINCE I STARTED DRIVING ON THE ROAD IN 1981. I'VE ALSO HELPED REPAIR SO MANY MORE. IT'S NOT FUNNY!
GIMME AS MUCH INFO AS YOU CAN
I CAN PROBABLY AID YOU WITH ANY OTHER CJ SOLUTIONS--IMPROVEMENTS (SORTA STOCK--NOT ROCK CRAWLERS AND SUCH)
DO YOU HAVE A MANUAL(S)?
I STILL HAVE #6 -- 1977 CJ 5 ("MR. JEEP") AND MY 1946 WILLYS ("WILLY")
I DO IT ALL MYSELF. JUST SHORT OF WHEEL ALIGNMENTS
NONE OF MINE HAVE NOT BEEN TO A SHOP SINCE 1987---WHEN WIFE TOOK IT THERE, WHILE I WAS DEPLOYED
SORTA LET ME KNOW YOUR BUDGET--I MAY CAN HELP YOU SAVE $$$ TOO!

Thanks for gettin back to me. I am mechanically inclined, but carbs are my strongest, I know enough to get me in trouble. Ha. Luckily I have a good photographic memory. I put it back together exactly how it was. However, the guy I aquired the jeep from, said that when he installed it, he tried makin some adjustments but was never able to get running right. Maybe he messed it up? Meaning adjustments are tht far off? I don't know how to measure rod position nor do I have a manual, carb info or anything. I have two numbers on the carb and can't find crap on either number. Numbers are: 6-2813 and 9-2201. Doesn't make sense.

NO THANKS TO ME!
BUT MORRIS HAS SQUARED YOU AWAY!
I'M JUST THE "GO BETWEEN". SINCE I DISCOVERED IT!
BACK IN '83, I BOUGHT JEEP # 2, UP UNDER THE BACK SEAT I DISCOVERED A NEW AMC 1979 SERVICE MANUAL
AT THE TIME I DID NOT REALIZE WHAT A TREASURE I HAD---I SORTA DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF IT
I STILL HAVE IT, IT'S TATTERED HITHER AND YON, 95% IS OBTAINABLE---SOMETIMES I IRON SOME OF THE PAGES TO BE ABLE TO SEE STUFF
I REALLY WANT TO GET ANOTHER ONE (FIND 'EM ON LINE, SOME ARE REPRINTS, SOME ARE CDs).I HAVE BEEN BAMAFIED FOR THE LAST 3 OR SO YEARS AND CANNOT FIND A LITTLE SPARE MONEY TO JUSTIFY IT
I PREFER A PAPER MANUAL---IT CAN BE WITH ME AND THE JEEP, WHEREVER WE ARE!
THE FACTORY ONE IS THE VERY BEST I HAVE, AS IT WILL BREAK EVERYTHING DOWN INTO NOTHINGNESS---AND SHOW YOU WHAT TO DO ON A SIXTH GRADE LEVEL!
. AND YOU CAN THANK ME WITH MEGA PRAISE, BUY ME LUNCH ONE DAY, AND SEND SOME PICS OF YOURS---ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND BODY!
LET'S GET THAT PUPPY RIGHT---BY THE MANUAL---IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING---LET ME KNOW BEFORE YOU INFLICT H. ELL DAMAGE UPON IT!
"FUEL CARBURETION (10,326KB)"
THIS IS THE FACTORY MANUALS SCANNED RIGHT ONTO THEIR SITE---SOME OF THE PICS AND DIAGRAMS COULD USE SOME HELP AS FAR AS DARKNESS
. BUT THIS IS FREE, SAYS IT'S PRINTABLE (I'VE NEVER TRIED)
WHO'S. THE. MAN?
KEEP ME POSTED---BUY NOTHING, TILL YOU CONFER WITH ME!
HAVE YOU SEEN ANY MORE OF MY STUFF ON HERE?
