I have a 53 f100 with a 289 engine with the automatic shifter on the floor. Is it possible to put the gears on the steering column I have now has the shifter and everything on top but not connected. What do I need to make it work on the column

Usually there is a shift rod that goes to a bracket that is connected from frame to trans mount bolts. There is another rod that goes to trans. But you could use a cable as well if you can hook it up. If you look online there are usually kits that allow you to do this so you can get rid of the floor shifter if I understand you right. They have universal kits or even for you application as there are a lot of them around.
