Reading in, in hindsight of course, about symptoms of TCC solenoid issues as the tahoe come to realize the TCC was the first issue. That really shortens this 3 week event, I changed the 2 shift solenoids a and b only (mistake) new fluid and test drive it. Drove about 15 miles down i-15 in Las Vegas, heard a loud bang while in cruise mode/control, very important, pulled off highway babied it to a convenient store and no further, maybe 3 miles max. I get it towed to my house been breaking it down by process of elimination, I came to the conclusion the torque converter went out, so I replaced it, truck would go in gear but output shaft was spinning, the output shaft of the transfer case. But zero pressure in tranny, so I start going deeper eliminating transfer case, drop the pan to test every solenoid, should’ve done the first time and you wouldn’t be reading this lol, turns out TCC is blown but the was a lot of metal in the pan, a pile about the size of a thumb. A lot! And it did not explain the bang, so I start taking everything off the valve body, very last the I removed and just because I had to to get another solenoid out was the 1-2 shift accumulator, low and behold! Spring broke in 2 pieces complete disarray under the piston, piston had hole in the top and was stuck in place. These my bang! Metal in pan was silver color and squiggly like shavings and the springs had been shaved. My question is, after finding that, I am not very experienced mechanic, should I stop there, replace all solenoids and button it up? My reasoning for wanting to is well i’m not experienced lol, i’d like to think since it happened inside the pan area the big pieces would not make it thru the filter so the upper portion should be okay? The fluid dripping from the upper portion is very clean. If I can I will post pics I took. Keep in mind I only went 15-20 miles on fresh fluid and completely clean pan! Also would the 1-2 explain zero pressure? Thank you!

Good morning,

With all that debris, there is metal in the valve body that is causing issues. Something inside the transmission is or did come apart.

From the looks of the pan and the issues you have, I would suggest an overhaul or a replacement for this.

I attached the procedure for checking line pressure to be sure it is within specs. I would check this pressure to be sure the pump is working correctly.

I figured that’s what I was going to hear lol, darn! There were big pieces in the debris that are not metal, I’ll post a pic, what inside is really hard black plastic with ridges like in this pic I’m putting now? I took my torch to one piece and I’d say it was 800-1000 degrees before it lit, also all the debris I used a very strong magnet to pick out of the fluid is how I know they aren’t metal.

I'm sorry to say, but the transmission is done and needs to be replaced. I attached a YouTube video for the removal of the transmission for you.
