The rpm's on my car are shotting up and down when I press on the gas pedal. I don't know much about cars, but it seems like it's getting no gas when I press on the accelerator. I'll get just the natural acceleration when it's idling in drive (it's an automatic) but when I try to get up any speed the rpm's go crazy. I know that my car needs a new flywheel, but I don't know if the problem is related. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

I had same problem with my 1988 740 and the air intake was collapsed. It could not be seen from the top but found it by mistake by feeling under the corrigated part of the plastic air intake. I searched for a fuel problem as well. Used chicken wire to hold the thing open so the engine could breath!
