Truck engine shuts off while running

Having the check engine light on means there is a trouble code stored in the vehicles computer.First thing needing to be done is have the code(s) retrieved.If you don't have access to a scanner/code reader most local auto parts stores will check for free or have a tool loaner program and will rent you one.Here is a tutorial showing what is involved:
