I Have an 1985 toyota pickup with a 5 speed manual and I think the 3rd and 4th gears are going out cause they always grind and are sometimes impossible to get into while all my other gears work fine. I also have an loud bangin noise coming from my transmission when I use reverse. Im wonder what the problem is and how much would it cost to get my transmission rebuilt? Thank you

HI there,

I would be thinking that you would have a problem with the 4/5 selector hub, is there any noise in any gear, is the bang when you first select reverse or when you try and load up the transmission? As for costs, this is always a bit hard to say as you do need to see what is worn or broken, you may be better off getting a re-co transmission, your local suppliers will be able to give you a fixed price for this.
