Corolla loses Power

Toyota Corolla CE 2000, 120,000 miles. The check engine light showed up at around 98,000 miles and I ignored it and reset it by unplugging the batteries. Then just recently the engine light showed up again and went away on its own. and a couple of days back when I was driving on a freeway I floored the acclerator as somebody was tailgating me the engine the car refused to acclerate. it was a leveled road, no uphill. Now it is running just fine, could it be the catalytic convertor or is it the fuel pump dying on me ?

It could be caused by a number things the cat being one. I suggest you have the engine scanned to see what is going on. I sincerely hope the timing belt hasn't slipped a tooth. Good luck
