Hi, so I was filling my oil up yesterday as it was low. While I was filling it a small bit of oil spilled and made its way to other parts in engine. I wiped away most of what I could see. I then drove my car and when I got home I could get a strong smell of oil and opened up my bonnet and could see there was smoke coming from some part of engine. Is there anything I could buy for car to clean up the engine and Is it safe to drive too?

Hi KT,

Yes. There is a product here in the states called Gunk engine degreaser. I am sure you have a comparable product (assuming you are not here in the States). I included a picture of it. You just spray this on the engine itself, trying to avoid electrical components. It is ok if you get overspray on the these components, you just don't want to soak them down. Once you let it sit for a few minutes you hose it off. Again, just be mindful as to where you are spraying.

You can always get a carb cleaner if you know where the oil is but this is not the best for plastic parts. An engine degreaser will clean all components so it is the best.

Worst case you can just let the oil burn off. It will eventually go away but I am like you, I would want to clean it so this product is the best.
