Installed new clutch package, master and slave cylinders, went to install shifter and have 1-4 and fifth is a fight but do not have reverse or neutral. I am assuming I didn't start with in neutral but I don't know the configuration of the linkage. Someone explain the proper positions of the linkage and which spot to stab to correct the problem. The transmission is a W56 only one bushing for transfer case. What position should the transfer case be in 2H or 4H?

Hi,

Because of the model year, there is very little technical information. However, I did find the adjustment procedure. Take a look through it and let me know if it helps.

1. Remove cross shaft rod attaching nut.
2. Push cross shaft rod fully downward.
3. Return rod three notches to N position.
4. Set shift lever to N position.
5. While lightly holding shift lever toward R position, adjust cross shaft rod nut.
6. Tighten cross shaft rod nut.
7. Start engine, check transmission operation in all selector positions.

Joe, you're right if that was the the case but, it is a manual 5 speed 22re. The 22r is 2wd and it is a W56 with no external adjustments. If the clutch was not installed right could that cause a problem cause this should be straight forward, so easy even a cave man can do it.

Hi,

If the clutch is working other than neutral and reverse, something isn't together right with the linkage. The clutch wouldn't prevent you from getting neutral. I have the info on the W56 for rebuilding, but nothing showing linkage.

You seem to know what you're talking about, so I have to assume you rechecked the linkage. Could the restrictor pin be causing the issue? See pic 1.
