I came out and my car wouldn't start. I tried starting it a few times. Then I tried to jump it but the key would not fit in the ignition.

For the key not fitting in the ignition, that sounds like you had the wrong key. Clearly if it fit prior then it is not the key so let's make sure you have the right key and then if you can clarify the issue with the key, that would help.

As for not starting we need to find out if we have fuel and spark as we can assume we have compression at this point. We can come back to that later.

Here are some guides that will help with that:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/starter-not-working-repair

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-cranks-but-wont-start

I would suggest we start with checking the fuel pressure.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Below you will find the process from the manual on how to replace the pump if it proves out to be the issue.

Let us know what you find with this material and we can go from there.

My key won't turn when I put it in the ignition to start it. I've tried everything. It's time for me to get it fixed but I would rather do it myself. Is there instructions to change an Ignition Lock Cylinder?

If you can't get the key to turn to the acc position then you will have to replace the ignition housing too. Let's start with does your key look all worn out or worn down? Also do you have a key that isn't all worn down if so have you tried that key to see if it turn's?Let me know and I will give you the next step.

Good morning,

You can either call a locksmith to come to you and make a new set of keys or replace the cylinder.

It would be easier to have the locksmith come to you.

I attached the procedure for replacing the lock cylinder as well.

If the cylinder does not turn, as you indicated, then you will need to drill out that pin.

Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement
Removal Procedure

Important: The Vehicle must be in PARK prior to ignition cylinder removal.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disable the SIR system. See: Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming > Procedures
3. Remove the steering column trim covers. See: Steering Column > Removal and Replacement > Steering Column Trim Covers
4. Remove the park lock cable from the bottom of the housing.

5. Insert key into the ignition and rotate to the RUN position.

6. Depress the locking button through hole on side of ignition module assembly with a thin pick-type tool.
7. Rotate the ignition cylinder back from the ACC position.
8. Slide the lock cylinder to the ignition housing.

I have 04 Saturn Vue, appx 75,000 miles. Recently it has been having trouble when I go to turn the key to start the engine. Now it never starts on the first time, and sometimes I have to sit for 5-10 min and keep trying to turn the key before it will turn and start. A friend suggested that the tumbler is going bad? Please help!

So doe's it not turn in the lock postion? Before you go replacing the ignition cylinder look at your key does it look worn if so go to saturn and have them make a fresh dont copy the old worn one. If the new key doesnt work then you need a new cylinder. Let me know what you find.

Luckily we had a spare from the dealership already, and when I used it, my car started right up! When I compared the old and new key, it was like night and day because the old key had been worn down. I did read this idea on several different sites yesterday. And just wanted to post that if someone else is having a similar issue. Try the key first before tearing apart the steering column!
Thanks again for all your help! :)

I have a 2003 saturn vue with approx. Mileage of 97,000. The security light stays on for a while and then goes out. It has been doing this for the last 10,000 miles. It has created no starting problems. I have a gm tech 2 scanner, and am unable to pull codes.

Replacing the ignition tumbler would that solve the problem, or I read trying to clean the tumbler with brake clean might work?

Cleaning the tumblars is for the ignition cylinders sticking there is a bulletin for that. But most of the time that does work. The security light is a different thing all together. When the lights on or any other time is the door locks keyless entry gas gauge temp gauge etc inop intermintantly. Its most likely going to be a pass lock sensor or a body control module.

All gauges work properly, and all other keyless entry work fine. The only thing so far is just the security light coming on. Where is the location of of the pass lock sensor?

The pass lock sensor is built into the ignition housing.I would take it somewhere that can read your body control module codes. Which the auto parts stores cant do then let me know what the exact code numbers you have are not code descriptions.

I used my gm tech 2 scanner, and when I went to body control module codes, no codes were present. Does this mean the defective part is the passlock sensor?

Usually when the pass lock sensor fails on those cars it sets a code but anything is possible. Those vues did have some body control module issues also.I always used my spare body control to swap out to see if it was a bad body control module.
