I just purchased this car and when I turn it off the chime goes off telling me that I have left my lights on but I know for a fact that I turn them off. Seeing as I just bought this car I haven't started playing with all the knobs so I don't think I turned somthing else on. Is it just a blown sensor cause the previous owner tells me that the service engine light is on but has been on since he purchased the car two years prior and is just that a blown sensor

The chime and the check engine light are two different problems. The chime is probably an electrical issue that needs diagnosis and we can go after that if you are able to do the testing.

The check engine light needs to have the codes pulled to start with. This is probably costing you gas mileage loss with it on. If you get the codes, we can go further.
