Car listed above has a 3.0 dohc. It has been rough idling and tries to shut off. But then sometimes it runs all right.

Hi,

A rough idle can be the result of several different things. Most commonly, it is caused by an engine vacuum leak. Have you checked for leaks? If not, here is a link that explains how:

Next, does the check engine light stay on while the engine is running? If it does, then we need to have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a video showing how it's done:

I realize most people don't own a scan too. However, most parts stores will do it for you at no charge. If the light is on, have that done, and let me know what codes are retrieved.

Let me know what is found or if you have other questions. Keep in mind, since there are a few different possibilities, I need to start with the most common causes.

Take care and let me know.

Joe
