Hi there. I have a 1999 Subaru Legacy GT which has 85k on it. I have noticed it cannot shift into the last gear - fifth gear, whether in auto or sport shift. Also I have noticed the power/hold button wont illuminate on the dashboard when pressed on 'ON'. Before that it could illuminate and also shift to fifth gear. What could be the problem? The transmission fluid seems to be just okay, both the level and viscosity. Please help, what should I do to correct this. Thanks in advance

Start with a check for tyrouble codes. If no codes are present, check the power/hold switch and its circuit.

You need a scan tool to check for trouble codes. Most parts stores provides this service but being transmission related, the parts store might not have the appropriate scan tool.

If they don't have the appropriate scan tool, you would either need to go to a repair shop that has it or the dealer.
