I already spent $500 on doing the heads just to find out that a rod bearing was the problem all along. So now I pull the bottom end down and find everything pretty good except one rod bearing, I have a few questions. I want to know if I can get by with just installing new bearing inserts?(Crank looks good but I plan on plasti gauging). Should I also install new main bearings? (Should I use emory on crank? All but one main and one rod journal are smooth, main had grooves running the diameter, rod journal is slightly discolored, or should I go ahead and have it turned?) And should I go ahead and hone the cylinder walls and re-ring it too?(No lip at top of cylinder walls and walls look good)and of course I am going to put all new seals in. Parts are surprisingly cheap, about 150-200 will do it all(except machine work of course. I am trying to get another couple years out of this van, and It ran like a top and has been a great car otherwise or I would not even bother, I would appreciate any good advice. Thanks

Replace the crank and bearings or have it cut and use oversized bearings. As far as the rings, if the heads are off and you need to pull the crank out anyway, replace them. Make sure to check end gap to determine if the cylender walls are not worn beyond spec.
