1998 Oldsmobile Achieva 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
my 98 olds achieva brake light came on so i took it too the repair shop they said it may just be a short on the system. now when i want to get my car out of park it wont to it even if i have my foot on the brake, i end up having to do it manually. i also just noticed that my car isnt accelerating as well since the brake light has come on. what could be wrong?

This may sound like a stupid question, but are the brake lights working? If the switch is bad, it won't send a signal to the park release solenoid to release the shifter.
