Electrical problem
1995 Oldsmobile Achieva 4 cyl

neither the head lights nor the tail lights work except the breake and signal lights incuding the high lights work but only the front ones. Also non of the front board lights nor the other lights inside work. I would just like to know if any one can help me figure out what is wrong before I have to take it to a mechanic. Thank you I appreciate all of your help.

I had the same problem with my 95 Achieva. Thought it was the fuse, was much more expensive than that. The whole turn signal arm had to be replaced at a cost of 140.00, not including labor.

This common problem with GM vehicles from the early to late 1990s is caused by very samll wires and the connections they make inside the steering column. Because they put all the different functions in the one switch they had to micro size these wires and connections. They are highly succeptable to breakage when the wheel is tilted (in models with tilt wheel) and by general use. It may be possible for a skilled individual to repair breaks in these connections if they are a friend who works free or very cheap. The dimmer switch on the dash (for the dash and interior lights) is also a possible cause of the interior lights not working. Is it turned all the way down to completely dim the dash? Do the interior lights come on when it is rotated all the way to the top past the "click"?
