Nothing except check engine light when turning key?

So, the other day I tried to start the car and it acted like the battery was drained. I tried jumping it and all that would happen was all the dash lights on, nothing else. Replaced starter and now all I'm getting is a check engine light when I try to start nothing else. Not even other dash lights. No click, no crank, nothing. Not sure where to start.

So, if the battery shorts out internally it will not take the jump and the battery needs to be replaced. Here is a guide to help confirm the issue, make sure the battery connections are clean and tight:
