Thanks for taking my question, whatever advise you can give me would be sincerely appreciated. So, I went to go to work this morning and I turned on the heater as it was a chilly 37 degrees. I headed out thinking the truck will warm up and so will the heater. It takes me roughly 20 minutes to get to work and I've got the heater on full blast the entire time. After about 15 minutes of driving like this, I suddenly get a thermostat warning on my dashboard so I immediately turn the heater off as it wasn't blowing any heat anyway and within seconds of turning off the heat, the thermostat drops down back to normal! I get to work and park in my usual spot and I hear a fan coming from the engine itself, like a secondary fan and it's pretty loud. After a few minutes of being parked (but the engine on) that fan turns off and everything is running normally. Still no heat though. With the scenario above, what do you think I should do?

Thanks for your time. Charlie

Okay, I need to some deeper background information here from you.

Does the truck warm up normally, as in the temperature gauge shows the coolant temperature is normal? Have you looked at the coolant level? If so does it have adequate coolant in the reservoir? This sounds like you have low engine coolant or the temperature blend door actuator stopped working but to but sure this video and guide can help us fix it.

and if the temperature blend door needs replacement here is a guide that can help with diagrams below to show you on your car.

This guide can help as well

Check out the diagrams (Below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and my apologies for the delay in getting back to you as I was at work.

You're not going to believe this, I can hardly believe it myself. I feel stupid and ashamed and you have every right to take my "man-card" away from me because of it.

I went to my truck and checked my coolant level and it was nearly empty! I drove to my local Walmart, bought a gallon of Prestone, filled up my coolant reservoir, started my truck up and presto, heater started working again.

So, so, so embarrassing. Something so simple I completely overlooked.

But, if it hadn't been for your questions I would've made an appointment with my local Ford dealer and probably gotten robbed for $300.00 in "parts and labor" when all they did was fill up my coolant!

Thank you Jon, your help was sincerely appreciated.

Respectfully,

Charlie

No Problem at all!

I have done similar things where I had half the interior out of a vehicle chasing a broken wire and it turned out the fuse was blown!

We all get one at least once in our lives!
