2000 Nissan Maxima engine wont start

Just changed the battery and tried to crank the engine up, it starts to respond but it does not follow through.

why is it not starting, I recently put in a new starter

Did you try jump starting the vehicle just because a battery is new does not mean it is charged and also check the alternator output voltage should read between 13.5 to 14.4 volts
