Hello again, I'm back but this time for my moms van. She called me the other day and said that her van just stalled on her and that her RPMs were jumping all over the place, but later that day it cranked right up and no problems. Then yesterday on her way to bring home my kids she said it was doing it again then called me histaricall and said to meet her at one of the gas station at the interstate with a fire extinguisher that her van was on fire she thought. A gentleman helped her until I got there but he told me that the hood was too hot to open at the time when he got there. By the time I got there I got the hood popped, there was no fire just a lot of smoke and there was what looked to be oil on the ground and some sprayed around under the hood. She said that her RPMs were all over the place again before during and after all of this too. Now me and my husband both have looked and can see what looks to be oil coming from a spot under the hood (I'll attach a photo ) other than this I'm at a loss. My husband and myself know nothing about this vehicle kinda learning as we go, so I have no idea that the part is that is the images. We cranked it up after all if this and no problems other than the RPMs. Thank you for your time once again and look forward to hearing from you.

Hi,

That is the fuel pressure regulator. Oil shouldn't be leaking from there. Gas can and could cause a fire.

Do me a favor just to confirm we are looking at the same thing. Is it circled in blue? If you look at the attached pic, is that the location of what you took a picture of?

If I'm correct, with the engine off, remove the vacuum hose and check if there is evidence of fuel being in it.

I copied your pic and circled the vacuum hose.

Let me know.

Joe

Yes, we're talking about the same part. I'll go do that now and by checking to see if fuel has been there are you meaning smell it? It hasn't been cranked now for 2 days so I'm guessing it would be dry to be able to see if its wet. Sorry for my ignorance on this one guys I'm not usually the one that messes with the fuel problems that's my husband's department, but he is a man of long work hours so. I guess I'm the gal for the job. Also thanks again for all of yalls help!

Hi,

You are very welcome, and I'm sure your husband appreciates your help.

If the diaphragm is bad in the regulator, simply turning the key on and off (not the engine) could cause fuel to enter. Also, are you sure it was oil? The part we are talking about has nothing to do with motor oil.

Let me know what you found or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Okay, so I jacked the van up took a gander under it and oh man! So she definitely has an oil leak, and I'm going to say a fairly new one as to how much oil is under this thing! It has been parked now for 2 days no one has cranked either and there is oil on the ground as well. I'm going to attach some picture all the ones I will attach first are on the front drivers side. Then I'll comment with the rest. What in the world would make it leak so much oil just all of a sudden? Is there a different way to send a bulk amount of pictures?

I'm assuming that's why it seemed to be oil coming from the previous location I had stated it literally going everywhere!

Hi,

That is certainly a bad leak. I noticed in the first picture that the top of the axle is wet and along the wheel is as well. That leads me to believe the leak was under pressure. Check the oil filter and the filter adapter. See if they are all wet.

I attached a pic below and highlighted the two places to check.

Let me know what you find. Also, let me know if the oil was changed recently.

The filter is on the passenger side. If you look up from the left wheel, it's mounted on the engine at that point. There will be a plastic cover over it. Push that back and see if the filter is loose and wet.

Also, check the engine oil level to see if it is low.

Let me know.
