Car starts but shuts off right away but the second time will start and stay on, will stay on first time if I give it gas. When I am coming to a stop and put in neutral the rpms dive down and oil light comes on and cars shuts off. Starts right up after with some reving, sometimes have to keep car on by keeping foot on gas. Car does not always shut down at stops or turns but will idle rough (idles almost to zero and sometimes at 3000). The spark plugs and wires are new.

Hi, I ahve a 98 eclipse gsx, I pretty much had the same problem as u with it right now, so if your car stalls wen motor is cold but wen it warms up will stay started but sometimes idols rough, then u need to switch out the idol air controler it is pretty much an easy job to do but could cost u a lil bit of money depending were u get the part, to reach were yours is, it is usually located under the throtle body, you will def. Need to remove someparts to get to it but after replacing that the car should run right. :)

Hi brownpie,

98gsxjake is probably correct but you should check the idling speed.

Is the check engine light on when driving?

Hi brownpie,

When the check engine light is on while running vehicle, you need to get a scan done to find out the error code.

With the error code we would know what to look for instead of looking for a needle in a haystack.
