Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Wifes sable ate the serpentine belt last week. Got around to replacing it yesterday, and now the car won't turn over. Have looked at the belt routing by the diagram under the hood, and all looks right. Belt isn't super tight, has a little bit of flex as I would expect.

Car won't turn over, Belt moves a little with each key turn, but the lights go dim as soon as it starts to turn over. Know the battery is fully charged, so I suspect it has something with the belt change.

If I take the belt off it will start. Went back out and looked at the diagram for routing, and believe I had it right.

Hi cubswillwin,

Thank you for the donation.

Seems one of the components along the line is seized. That could be the reason the original belt failed.

Remove the serpentine belt and manually turn each of the component such as alternator, A/C compressor and pullies etc to test if any of it is seized.
