Engine oil leak?

I will have the car removed tomorrow or the day after. I don't know of any other mechanics in this area, I will have to ask around.

What they told me today was that their is play in the crankshaft where it shouldn't be. After laying out all the facts the service manager agreed that I shouldn't be having this problem, especially with a car with such low mileage. He said he can't figure it out but he was going to call a Hyundai dealer repair shop to get their opinion.

I figured it can't hurt since I can't pick up the car for another day, but I told him not to do anything else with it unless they contact me.

If you have any other insight on what this may be please feel free to share.

Not sure if hes talking about crank end play or bearing wear (up and down) It would have to be a ton of play to cause a seal to leak. Did the engine make any noise before it was taken apart?

We just had a tune up, oil change, and hose replaced on our vehicle. Now the oil is leaking the mechanic said he saw we had a lot of oil spill when he changed it but he never mentioned it to us. We are trying to figure out where the leak is coming from. It's giving off a burnt rubber smell through the vents and the oil light only comes on when I hit the brakes. I'm thinking we did not notice it before because it was clogged and once we got the tune up and stuff done he unclogged it. I just need to know where could it possibly be leaking from so we can stop it before it does any real damage. We are keeping the oil full so it does not run out.

The best approach is to wash the area with an engine degreaser, then add a small bottle of dark purple dye to the oil. Search a day later with a black light. The dye will show up as a bright yellow stain that you can follow back to the source. Auto parts stores will have the dye, and those that rent or borrow tools should have a black light.

I have an 02 hyuinda elantra manual, today it made a sound like a pop and then a hiss like flat tyer(then what I thought was steam) and when I pulled over I noticed some oil dripping on the road from the back of the engine bay but none on the top of the motor

Sounds like it is either a gasket or a oil seal that blew. Check to see that there isn't two seals on the oil filter cause sometimes mechanics forget to take the old one off if they are in a hurry. Is the oil coming from the oil filter?

Well the whole oil filter wouldn't bust what would happen the seal between the oil filter and oil filter housing would bust and leak oil and hiss. Like I said maybe the oil filter had two seals on it. Thanks

As far as the oil, chances are it is the valve cover leaking. Check that first. The coolant leak may be coming from the water pump. Can you tell me aprox where in the engine compartment the leak is located?

I already replaced the Valve cover the leak seems to be coming from underneath toward the back of the engine and on downhill leaks worse then uphill, also the check engine light is on and once it runs for about 10 minutes seems to be bogging out or losing compression.

If the valve cover isn't leaking, then you need to check the head gasket for leaks. As far as the check engine light, if it comes on, the computer should have a trouble code stored. Have the computer scanned to determine what the problem is coming from. Most parts stores will do it for free.
