Lifter/CAM replacement

I'm having the lifters replaced on my vehicle listed above. It's my understanding they are not replacing the camshaft. Is that normal?

Hi,

That is very possible. If the camshaft isn't damaged and has been inspected, it should be fine.

What happened that led you to have the work done?

Received a check engine light and it started running roughy. The Chevrolet Tech said it was a vacuum hose issue and kept it over night for their engine tech to review. The next day, the tech said the lifters were bad and needed to be replaced.
I’m not a mechanic, but I was told to see why the cam wasn’t being replaced. The Service manager said it was fine, but figured a second opinion wouldn’t hurt.

I understand. The cam may be fine. However, the only way to confirm that is by micing the cam lobes to make sure they are within tolerance.

I did find a technical service bulletin related to lifter issues. Take a look at the attached pics. Note that they do not mention anything about the camshaft.
