When I engage my key in the ignition to start my jeep I hear one click and then.....nothing. All the in-dash symbols light up but the jeep will not start. On occasion I will keep the ignition engaged and it will delay when starting rather weakly. There are days in which I have no problems at all and the jeep fires right up. I have attempted to perform the start while in neutral, but have had the same issue. It was suggested to me that it is the starter motor. I have purchased the starter motor, but have yet to install it in fear that this may not be the solution.

How old is the battery?

How are the connections?
Tight? Can you move them at all?
Are they clean? no corrosion? Pull them off and clean the mating sufaces with a wire brush for them and tighten them.

Look at the cables..How are the ends..ANY Green color? Check the other ends of the cables.

IF all is good, then next no crank happens, hold the key in the on position while someone raps on the starter.

As far as i can see the battery connections are good. Its seems real tempermental. One moment it starts strong, the next moment nothing. Everything within the vehicle powers up. Stereo, heater, interior lights, dash lights, head llights.... etc. The "click" isn't within the starter, it has something to do with the ignition, which I believe is working.

I just purchased the vehicle, so I don't know how old the battery is. Since everything has power, I believe the problem is elsewhere rather than the battery.

I've tried giving it a jump when it wont start, but that is ineffective.
