I think someone put something in my tank

My 01 dodge durango is new to me I had it for less than a year it was running fine until a few weeks ago and it cut off on me when I got into the parking lot of the grocery store. I was able to drive home although I heard a rattling sound from the engine. I thought that it may be due to the fact that my oil was very low. After putting oil in the car I drove around the corner where the car then shut off on me. After the car stopped I tried restarting the car while it did start the car would shut off when I pressed down on the gas peddle after that I tried to gas in the tank and I noticed that it had been tampered with. My question is this after reading this why do you think that my car shuts off when I press down on the gas peddle.
