My 2001 Durango began giving me problems two summers ago, regardless on short or long distance if the weather is too hot when I reach my destination and turn off the car it will not turn back on until it cools down a little bit. Sometimes it can take no less than 15 minutes, however, lately it has not been too hot but I still have the same problem. I went to put gas yesterday approximately 6 miles from my house, I turned off the car at the gas station and it would not start for almost 20 minutes. When I turn the key nothing happens as if the battery were dead but lights turn on, windows go up and radio works. After 20 minutes it started as if nothing happened and two blocks away when I stopped at the store it did not start again for another 15 minutes.

Have you ever checked the starter relay? Also, when this happens, I need you to check something. Have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for power to the smaller wire on the starter. It should be getting 12+ volts. If it is, the starter is the problem. If it isn't, then I would go to the relay.

Let me know what you find.
