2005 Hondey Odyssey; automatic transmission; mileage:164,000 miles. While driving about 35mph I noticed I was flooring my brake pedal when coming to a stop. As I drove about another 2 miles, the breaks seemed fine. When driving down hill at about 25-30mph, I was applying my brake pedal to maintain the said speed, but noticed I was loosing friction as I was coming to the bottom of the hill. Eventually, to avoid hitting the car in front of me, I had to smash against the side rail along the sidewalk to stop me. The funny thing was that after all the commotion, the brake seemed to work fine again as I drove another 2 miles to home. What's up with that?

Hello,

This could be a sign of a failing master cylinder. It is possible that the seals inside the master cylinder is weak and provides no pressure when the pedal gets depressed.
But when you press the pedal again it works.

Here is a helpful article:

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
