i have a 96 civic ls, my oil fill cap came off and shot oil all over the engine, i replaced and refilled my oil and have no problems with the motor, i now have a problem with the fuse that controls the speedo sensor and the alternator. its a 7.5 amp and blows as soon as you turn the key, i unhooked the speedo sensor and it still blew. I had a diagnostic run on the charging system and everything is ok there, i also had the codes read and the speedo sensor is the only code that was inside. could oil have gotten in the alternator and be causing this fuse to blow and thus causing my speedometer not to work?

anything is possible but if it showed speed sensor code, and the speedo is not working, sounds like the output speed sensor.

If you clear the code, does it come back?

Take the battery wire off the alternator and see if the fuse blows. If it does then you have a bad alternator. Oil conducts and could have shorted a diode.

There also might be something on that fuse line that isn't listed. I will check a schematic and get back to you.
