Electrical problem
1996 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 260k miles

Hi!

For months now, my speedometer sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. There is no predictability for this, it can register the speed just fine for minutes or days, then back to zero for minutes or weeks.

Is there anything other than the vehicle speed sensor on the transaxle that could be causing this? Is this where the speedo gets its information from anyway? It's an expensive replacement, and I want to be sure. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi rubbie,

The VSS is the sending unit for the speedometer and usually that is the main cause of speedometer reading malfunctioning.
