Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Honda Civic Manual 115, 00 miles

A few days ago, the oil light started to flicker - but didn't stay on. There are no unusual noises to report. When I took my car to the shop, the mechanic said that there was no oil.

I've been warned that even with the new oil, my car could still seize up. It seems to be running fine so far, but I'm just waiting for it to die.

My question: Is there anything I can do to save my car? How long do I have to drive in fear of it dying before I can relax? Is there any chance that I dodged a bullet?

There may have been no oil apprent on the dipstick or near none, but there is still oil in the pan that the oil pickup can still collect. If you really ran into a no oil issue your oil pressure light will be on constantly and this is where severe damages can occur.

The oil light may have flickered for you on the road due to turns, bumps and other things in the road moving the little oil in the pan there is not allowing the pickup to be submerged. You may have starved the bearings during these scenarios causing prematrue wear.

To be honest refill the car with oil and check for any causes of oil consumption or loss. I would drive the car but understand what has happened the the seriousness of something so small that can cause significant damage. Like I said you probably caused premature wear to the engine bearings but that would not stop me from driving it.
