My car started shutting off while being driven in the last two months. Ii had a scan tool run on it but no results came of it, I believe it's too old for that sort of information dthough. Anywho, at first it was just completely random and would happen once every two or three weeks. After a few weeks of that it started accuring more and more often. It was turning over but not catching at all, after one or two tries it would start and be fine. After that it would take a day of sitting there to run it to a stop sign down the street where it would shut off whether at high or low rpm's. It started doing it while in park. Until finally I tried to start it for a test run to see if it waqs maybe my fuel pump going out but I could hear it kick in at the start of my car. It shut off and then wouldn't even turn over again. The engine light would turn on in the dash and after 4 to 5 seconds of staying there my D4 light would start flashing (this was throughout the entire escapade). So I drug it to my house and it has been there for 3 or 4 days now with no progress.

my thoughts are that a distributer, a main relay, or ignition could be the issue. Or a combonation or a few.

i would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions other experts would have to offer. Thank you very much.

Hi NBooker,

Thank you for the donation.

The symptoms are consistent with a faulty PGM-FI main relay and you can remove the relay to check the circuit board. If the soldered joints have signs of cracking, resolder them and retest.
