The back end of the driveshaft on my '99 Yukon broke

A few days ago my 1999 GMC Yukon 4x4 (140k miles) started shaking really badly when I hit about 30mph. I pulled over and checked the car out as best as could. I thought it might be water in the tank, so I poured in some gas additive and rev'd the engine a few times. All of a sudden I hear a "clunk" underneath my truck. I looked down and saw back end of the drive shaft laying on the ground.

It looks like a U-joint just broke off from the rear wachamacall-it. Is that something that can be fixed, or am I going to have to shell out big bucks for a whole new driveshaft? I appreciate any and all advice.

You broke the U-joint. Hopefully you didn't damage the yoke on the rear end or the end of the drive shaft. If it need to be replaced get one from a salvage yard. Some of those shafts are fiberglass and they will fracture under such conditions. Look under and see what damage you have caused. If you don't have a support joint, pull the shaft from the tranny and examine it. If you have a middle support unbolt it from the cross memeber and drop the shaft. Good Luck Let me know!
