OK, so there I was last night driving home (92 Geo Prizm, 4 cylinder, automatic) from the local theme park going about 50 mph when when my brakes suddenly applied with out warning. Thank God the people behind me were not tail gating. It felt as all my breaks all my breaks suddenly seized on me. We tried to push it out of the road but it took three guys and me hitting the gas to get it to move. What happened and what can I do to fix it?

First verify it was the brakes. They would not automatically engage without pushing the brake pedal.

Toyota uses a seperate fluid (lubricant) supply for the differential (where the drive axles insert into the trans).

Most likely the differential is low/out of fluid and the differential is siezed.

If you raise the vehicle off the ground and put in neutral and all 4 wheels can be rotated by hand, then it is not a brake problem.
There is a drain plug for the differential, remove it and if there is little or no fluid then the problem is the differential, and you will have to get the trans rebuilt or replaced.
