I recently got my 88 Ford ranger running after it sat idle for the last 7 years. I had the fuel drained then I gradually added more fuel. I just had it filled up completely and noticed that the fuel gauge indicator did not move. What could be the cause of the indicator not moving?

Hello,

It sounds like the fuel level sending unit could be defective.
The fuel level sending unit consists of a float and a resistor that the float attaches to. As the fuel level goes up or down the float moves with it and that changes the resistance on the board. That translates into the fuel level at the gauge.
If that resistor is bad, it will not provide correct data.
The fuel level sending unit is a part of the fuel pump assembly.
In order to replace it you will have to remove the fuel pump from the tank.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
