2002 Ford Taurus 6 cyl 60,100 miles

I have a 6 year old 2002 ford taurus with 60,000 miles, recentely my check engine light came on took to dealership and was told I had a bad Power Control Module. Am trying to find the part # for the part to see if I can purchase and have a mechanic put it on for me. Can the part be purchase by a consumer or through a dealership only. And is it normal for a PCM to go bad after only 6 years.

What code did you have. I would not say it is common to replace for a check engine light. I never have replaced one for a check engine light on your car. Im not saying they are wrong but I would like more info.
