Could there be rust or other hidden problems?

I'm interested in buying a used, 2002 Ford Focus wagon with only 8,210 miles on it. Engine is 2.0 Liter. With such little use over 5 years, could the engine have rust issues?

Hi there,

You should have no problems with the engine, If it has been sealed up (spark plugs, air filter ) fitted and run periodical there is no concern at all, If it has not been run for some time(1-2 years) it would be advisable to remove the spark plugs squirt a little oil in each cylinder and spin it over, This will get oil back around the rings and will aid in protecting the engine on initial start up, get it warm, change the oil & filter, check all other fluid levels and you should be right to go. Before driving make sure all lights are OK, brakes work and take it easy on the first drive.
