How do i determine if the ball joints in my 1999 Explorer xlt 4x4 need to be replaced? Are there any symptoms/noises I would hear? Wife took the car to be inspected yesterday and mechanic told her this. The truck has 118,000 miles on it. Can i check for anything by jacking the car in my driveway?
thanks anyone for assistance.

Do you have a floor jack? if yes jack up under the control arm to take pressure off the ball joint. Get a good size bar and put it under the tire and pull up and down...see ANY movement? Movement is bad!
