I want to install a snowplow on my Explorer, but I was told the transmission couldn't handle it. There is nothing wrong with the tranny, but I was told it couldn't last with a plow. Is this correct?

DO NOT PUT A PLOW ON THIS TRUCK. It is just to weak to live with it. You will have a truck that is in need of so many repairs in the first year it will break your bank. The transmission is not made for it one the front end isn't made for that much weight either. A plow puts a lot of pressure on the u-joints, the ball joints the transmission the rear end and the steering, not to mention the front drive axles. If you are need of a snow plow and need to have a rig with people room then get at least a 3/4 ton truck with a crew cab and make sure it has the 44hd or the dana 50 in the front with a solid axle it will better handle the abuse that a plow does to a truck.
