I am have a great problem removing my old transmission to replace with another. Do you have to absolutely remove the exhaust or is there a trick to remove the upper bellhousing bolts? I used to do about all of my own mechanic work years ago and things seemed a lot more simple. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks

It is nearly impossible to change the transmission without removing the exhaust. It actually comes apart quite simply and easily. Just unbolt the crossover pipe to manifold bolts. And then the nuts that hold the crossover and cat to the rest of the exhaust system. It helps a lot if you soak them in penetrating oil (like WD-40) the day before.
