Why does my power steering occasionally fails. It only happens, maybe once every two months. Does my power steering need bleeding.

The pump / system only needs bled if it is taken apart. As far as your problem, does the pump make any noise? Have you checked to make sure the belt is tight? Does it only happen at specific times such as when it rains?

Let me know.

How do I bled the pump? I was told it was self-bleding. The belt seems like it is tight and it only makes a little noise; after the power steering fails. I think this problem only happens when I first turn on the car, especially in the morning, once every 2 weeks.

First, thanks for the positive feedback.

As far as the pump, fill the resivour, safely lift the front of the vehicle so both tires are off the ground. With the engine off, turn the steering all the way from left to right several times. Refill the resivour and continue the process until there is no longer a need to refill the system.

Let me know if that helps.

Joe
