After jump starting the car, when shut off does not start up again. Put a new battery in and had to use cables to jump start. Ran car for a time, shut off would not start again without a jump. Is this an alternator problem, since it starts when jumped?

Get a volt meter and when the engine is running test the voltage at the battery. It should be over 14 volts DC. Now if that is the case go to 1. If not go to 2.

1. Alternator is pushing out current to charge the battery, go to the battery cables and clean them. I don't mean to dump the bottom of your coke on the connections but disconnect them. Use a terminal cleaner and clean them well. VERY well. Put them back together and tighten well. IF either connection does not tighten down properly, replace. Try starting the car.

2. Not enough voltage to charge the battery. Have alternator checked at part store and buy a great replacement alternator. Complete the cable stuff in number 1.

Let me know the results.
