Engine Mechanical problem
1993 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I just bought a 1993 Ford Escort Wagon and I have noticed it don't like to start in the morning time. Sometimes she will start right up without problem and other times she is really hesistant to start or wont start at all. I was told it could be a bad battery so I replaced the battery but I'm still having the same problem and I just don't know where to look next. When it starts it will take a few moments to idle but after that I haven't had any trouble with it as far as driving or stalling out on me, I just can't get the think to start for me most of the time and it is getting very frustrating, does anyone have any ideas?

She has a strong crank but just seems like it don't want to fire...I haven't tried the starting fluid...It just baffles me what is wrong with it when it will run so strong when it actually starts.

things happen, the electrical system is very very effected by moisture when it fails.

such as some vehicle wont start on humid days due to bad ignition coils causing it to arc out.

we just have to troubleshoot and see what it is.

I got it started just a little bit ago and I notice that when it starts after not wanting to start like this morning that she spits and sputters really bad at first and even when you put your foot on the gas it doesn't seem like it is getting fuel and then she will come out of it and start to idle but you get the strong smell of fuel for several seconds after it begins to idle. Someone told me it might have a bad alternator so I took the positive battery cable off when I got it running and it stayed running...I was told if the Alternator was bad that it would die then...So I guess it probably isn't an alternator...I think it has to be something in the fuel system but I don't know where to look or what to even look for...

if it smells like raw fuel then chances are theres a issue with the ignition system not igniting the gas.

the only thing you really can do is check the fuel pressure to see how it matches up wiht specifications before the vehicle starts and with the engine running.
