2000 Ford Exscort ZX2, 99000 miles, 2.0 liter: I had a stereo system installed by a local electrtonics store, and now my air conditioning does not work properly. Everything works, just no cold a/c. How can this be fixed, or do I need to take it in for repairs?

I think the one who installed your stereo forgot to insert back the wire that turns on the aircon compressor. Start your car, switch on your aircon and visually check to see if your aircon compressor is working. Visually check only, do not touch anything when your engine is running.

Why would the stereo place unplug his compressor? Sounds like a big coincidence. Look on the compressor for your electrical connection and check it with a voltmeter and see if it is getting power and if so let me know how much.

My 97 Escort, I replaced it with a new Pioneer AM/FM CD player (rectangle type) in which you have to change the whole front factory stereo housing. I have to remove all these A/C and heater knobs and attached it to the new stereo plastic housing that I bought which has a built in holes for the A/C , heater knobs and defogger switch.

Ok I apologize, that makes a lot more sense to me now. Have you checked the wire connections to the switches? Especially the button/switch that activates your a/c, when you turn on the a/c itself is there a light that normally comes on to show it's on?
