A/C stopped working

I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2, manual, ~127,000 miles. While driving with the A/C on one day, it stopped working all of a sudden. The heat works just fine, but I can't get any cold air anymore. I took it to a mechanic, and they did the recharge, but that didn't work. Any ideas of what it could be and how much it may cost? I think there is also a higher pressure in the A/C than there should be.

Does the system not come on, specifically the compressor, or does it just blow warm air. It could be a lot of things. It could be an overcharge but the mechanic who charged it would have noticed. It could be leaks, bad relay, bad pressure switch, blocked condensor, accumulator that needs to be changed. I'd take it to a good mechanic who is certified to work on AC.
