Repair shop installed a rebuilt compressor when it was supposed to be a new one. Went out in less than two years. They claim should not be a big thing to me - that a new one could have done same thing. Do not want to do anything about it

My complaint is they were dishonest, telling me they only used new ones. I strongly feel like there is good chance I would not be having to pay for another compressor job had they installed a new one as they were supposed to do. They became hostile with me when I told them another repairman looked on back of compressor and read that it was a remanufactured item. My car is in another shop as I write this, getting a new compressor installed. Have been without vehicle one more time.

In your experience, what have you seen with reliability of rebuilt compressors? The repair office manager told me they had stopped using rebuilt ones 6-7 years prior due to problems with rebuilt ones at time they told me emphatically that they no longer used an rebuilt ones. Needless to say, I am not happy to learn that that was not a true statement.

Hi there,

I have never installed a rebuilt compressor as I feel that the Peace of mind of a new unit far out weighs the few dollars you may save, I think that you just have to put this down to experience and you will be all the wiser next time.
